Sukiyaki - The secret protest song

The meaning of a song is one of those things that can be hotly debated. But sometimes a song's meaning and even the reason for it's existence can be totally overlooked. That's the case with a secret protest song from 1961 that became the top song in the US. Sukiyaki by Kyu Sakamoto has an amazing back story. But very few people realized that this song, written by Kyu’s friend Rousuke Ei, was inspired by the deep sense of injustice and sense of loss as he witnessed his country change after world war 2.
